Assembly Detail

Design Innovation's expertise in designing and machining plastic parts to prototype molded parts was critical to this project. The mechanical design work was done for a job shop that had contracted to design and build prototype measurement devices for an international manufacturer of athletic wear. The challenge was to have all the housing parts be designed for straightforward manufacturing in a machine shop with standard tooling, but to give the look and feel of molded parts. The unit had to be both durable and comfortable enough to allow continuous use in a factory environment.

The work was done under a very tight deadline, and the CAD files that were delivered to the job shop allowed them to immediately start machining parts. The prototype was delivered on schedule, and has been in evaluation in several of the customer's Pacific Rim factories during 2002, and they're apparently thrilled with it.
